About

The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) works to make justice accessible, affordable, and easy to understand. We call this people-centred justice: an approach that places the needs of people and small businesses at the heart of justice systems. For more than 20 years, we have combined data, research, innovation, advisory support, advocacy and implementation experience to help partners understand justice problems, develop practical solutions and bring effective approaches to scale. We work with governments, justice institutions, civil society organisations, entrepreneurs, informal and community-based justice actors and development partners. Our support ranges from targeted advice on specific reform challenges to long-term country programmes and implementation support. We also engage regional and international alliances and multilateral partners, including the Justice Action Coalition, the African and Ibero American Alliances on People-Centred Justice, OECD, the EU, and others, to advance people-centred justice at global, regional and national levels. Our vision is a world where everyone can access a fair and effective justice system that upholds their fundamental rights and contributes to inclusive societies, economic opportunity and lasting peace.
